Randomized Controlled Trial of At-home Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) for Depression in Pregnancy |
What is this research study about?
Depression affects 1 in 10 people during pregnancy and can impact the health of their developing babies.
Talk therapy can be very helpful but does not work for everyone. Antidepressant medication can also be helpful, however, people do not always wish to take medication in pregnancy.
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-medication treatment for depression. Click here to see a video of how it works.
This is a research study of at-home transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for depression in pregnancy.
The research study, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, is taking place at Women's College Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in Toronto, Ontario.
If you qualify for the study, you will come in for one visit to one of the study hospitals, and learn how to use the tDCS. You will then be able to complete the rest of your treatments at home, if you choose.
